Hi.This is what my house looks like. I've been living in an rental, undergoing a renovation, moved out of the rental, traveling for my other job, and now I'm home. My house currently mirrors what my insides feel like. I'm so lucky to be complaining about my RENOVATION and beautiful home, but I completely underestimated the actual stress of moving, moving with kids, an unfinished home etc. I'm reacting by trying to find moments of self care in other places: more sleep, a good book, working out, good food and good company. #saveyourselfirst #movingsucks #itneverfeelsorderly #sendapitcrew #firstworldproblems ... DIVISIVE POST ALERT. Last week there was some post/video going around Facebook about how 'parenting doesn't end at night' (um...duh) . It showed a video of a mom and her babies not sleeping all night. It was time lapsed, shot in that creepy surveillance style and quite honestly, watching it gave me the shudders. This mom's argument was that this sleep deprivation is short (relatively in the span of our children's lives, I agree) and that being awake in the middle of the night is quite calming. I can't argue with this mom's experience but I think I just wanted to pop my head in to say few important things. 1 Its totally ok if you don't find waking up 2-5 times a night 'calming' or 'relaxing'. 2. Just because your kids sleep through the night (or you want them to) does not mean you're not parenting or that you're not a good parent. 3. Science backs up your (biological) need to sleep (there's nothing more natural than the urge to sleep). 4. If YOU are not coping, your kids are not coping and its ok to seek help. That's all. The other side.
I'm not saying that this woman isn't coping, I'm just saying there's no WAY I could cope with that situation and I come at it will all the empathy in the world. Stay strong and ask for help if you need it. ... See MoreSee Less
