Is Sleep Training Covered by Insurance in Canada?
Here’s what you need to know — and how to find out if your plan qualifies.
Let’s start with the big question:
yes, sleep consulting can be covered by insurance in Canada.
But — and this is important — it depends on who you’re working with. At Baby’s Best Sleep, many of our sleep consultants are also registered social workers, which means your plan may reimburse some or all of the cost of your support.
If your provider includes social work services in your extended health coverage, you could get professional sleep help for your child at little to no cost.
Why Does Being a Registered Social Worker Matter?
Sleep consultants aren’t regulated in Canada, which means anyone can call themselves one. This is why all of our Sleep Consultants undergo our robust training system which has long been recognized as the leading industry training resource in Canada. But when you work with someone who’s also a registered health professional, your insurance plan sees that as a reimbursable service.
Our consultants who hold the RSW designation (Registered Social Worker) are trained in sleep, yes — but also in mental health, behaviour, family systems, and parent support. That makes the quality of care higher, and the ability to access benefits possible.
How to Check If You're Covered
It’s usually a quick call or login to your benefits portal. Ask or search for coverage under:
Registered Social Worker
Social Work Services
Mental Health Practitioners (RSW)
You don’t need a doctor’s referral for most plans, and in many cases, a simple invoice with our consultant’s registration number is enough to submit for reimbursement.
What Plans Typically Cover This?
