Daylight Savings Is Coming!
Happy March to you all!
Guess what? It’s daylight savings this coming Sunday, March 8! Freaking out?
Don’t be. I’ve got you covered.
The good news is that ‘spring forward’ time change is a breeze for small children and for some lucky parents could mean getting you an ‘extra hour’. Ya that’s right a whole NEW HOUR! IN THE MORNING TIME 🎉🤯
Enjoy it! If your person is waking up at 6–well, for a few days they could be waking at 7! Woo hoo! Even so, a time change is a time change. We humans will be going to bed earlier than normal (remember that 7 PM current time will feel like 6PM new time once the time has changed), and asking little people to go to bed earlier that their internal systems want them to is hard. Here’s how to prepare your little person to kick butt during this transition!
Start now–you have 8 days. Pull back nap earlier and bedtime by 15 mins every 3 days until you land at a time that’s an hour earlier. That may look like the following:
Example Nap 1 9AM
- Days 1-3 8:45AM nap
- Days 4-6 8:30
- Days 7-9 8:15
- Day 10-12 8:00AM nap.
Follow this structure for your afternoon naps and bedtime as well.
It may take your kiddo a bit more time to fall asleep since they may not be as tired at the new earlier time, but in a week’s time they will be back on track again.Alternative, if you’re looking for a way to make bedtime a bit ‘later’ (aka your baby goes to bed at 630 now and you want them to go to bed at 7:30), you get a pass to do nothing because your baby’s 6:30 bedtime automatically becomes 7:30 in just 12 more days.
That’s IT! Plan for a week of adjustment either now, or on the day and you’ll be right back on track!
Good luck!!
